Interesting Pitching Keeper Prospects

Outside of David Price, here are some more promising pitching keepers:

Clayton Kershaw (LA) Age – 21  – Has really amazing stuff, especially his curve, plus he throws 95+. It obviously didn't translate fully last year at the major league level, but he is a top keeper, imo.

Yovani Gallardo (MLW) Age- 23 – He has been overlooked because of his injury last year.  Good fastball (92+), advanced curveball, and changes speeds well for a young pitcher.

Tommy Hanson (ATL) Age- 23 – Has dominated at the AA level with a 92-95 fastball, and great curve.  Needs to cut down walks, but has averaged a strikeout per inning.

Chris Volstad (FLA) Age- 23 – Was really impressive at the major league level last year, maybe even overacheiving with 6 wins in 14 starts, and a 2.89 ERA/ 1.33 WHIP.  Good fastball (94), curve, and changeup. Not a top strikeout pitcher, but shows good control.

Phil Hughes (NYY) Age- 23 – He had injury problems last year, leading to a very poor showing, but looks pretty good so far this year as the probable #5 starter for the Yankees.  He has a nice arsensal of pitches, and mixes them well.  Never had a WHIP over 1 in the minors.

At last count, it is estimated that the 2009 NY Yankees team salary will significantly exceed the GDP of at least 9 separate countries.

I like Gallardo the best on that list by far. He just seems to have all the tools and it looks like he will be the Brewers Ace this year.

Good choice with those two, IMO they are the top two on this list.

When Fbx actually announces the site's launch, can we bury this thread? :) When is the launch by the way?

We hope to launch this weekend, possibly Sunday night. Once we do "officially" kick things off, the forums should get a bit more crowded.

I think next year is when Tommy Hanson makes his mark in the big leagues. This guy has nasty stuff and will record a ton of strikeouts.

hanson is dominating the minor league circuit' look for him to join the braves rotation  by june  and be as good a fantasy option as gallardo

and have a slight better value then kershaw  then volstad …  phil hughes is a great prospect  who is still not MLB ready IMO

I agree that Hanson will be solid even this year but I do NOT think he will be as productive as Gallardo is.

gallardo hasnt pitched a full season since major reconstructive surgery …  which part of gallardo's abreviated career suggest he can sustain this pace over a full season ?

Cant argue with that, but gallardo is lights out so far and you cannot expect that from any rookie.

Yeah gallardo is looking awesome, the braves brought up medlen instead of hanson for now. agreed with hughes he looked good out the gate but has crumbled since.

melden was brouht up with a small window for a rotation spot .   manager bobby cox has voiced his opinion on the matter stating hanson will be brought up as soon as a more permanent change becomes eminent

melden may only lat a few starts  but he is clearly behind hanson on the Braves pitching rotation depth chart .

hughes seems like one of those talents  that might not hit his stride the first few full years at the show ..

this is the 3rd year he has pitched in ??   im not saying he will be a bust in 2009    but it will be interesting to see how well he preforms now that Big Tex is starting to hit and A Rod is back in the clubhouse..    Lets see how his next starts unfold before passing judgement

in the foresight you might be right .

in speaking in terms of 3 years down the line im saying with hanson's  pedigree  he will be of equal value to Yavonni

no question  Gallardo wins the short term  hands down ..
