OfflineSo I have what I believe to be a competitive team for this year. I am pretty well set in pitching and so I have been trying to move some of my pitching for some top prospects. I will list the players I need to give along with their contracts and I'd like help evaluating this trade. My first thought is no, I'm giving too much with Choo. Take Choo and Rios out and we'd be good.
I give:
David Price = $15 w/ 2 more seasons left on contract
Tim Hudson = $5 w/ 3 "
Choo = $1 w/ 2 "
Danny Duffy = $1 w/ minors contract (minors players do not start accruing years until I activate them)(This is just a throw in to make room on my roster for the prospects)
I get:
Trevor Cahill = $17 w/ 2 more seasons left on contract (don't like him, but needed to get a usable starter in return)
Julio Teheran = $1 w/minors contract
Shelby Miller = $1 w/minors contract
Alex Rios = $4 w/ 2 years left on contract (This is to soften the blow of losing Choo and hoping that he will have a bounce back year)
2 questions:
1. Does this damage my pitching too much?
2. Am I overpaying to have this prospects at a dirt cheap price for 3 years once I decide to activate them?
Offlinewe need to get this place rockin' like the football forums.

Offlinebob, I thought things would pick up too in this forum. My roster is in my signature (as hard as it is to see). If I did this trade my 6 man rotation would like this: Lester, Wainwright, Cain, Daniel Hudson, Cahill & Ogando/Bedard (depending on which situation pans out better). It definately weakens my rotation, but I think I still have a top 3 pitching staff in my 12 man league. Thoughts?
OfflineI didn't even pay attention to the roster….in the signature….
Your front 3 are awesome, Hudson is solid, Cahill is GREAT when healthy….so I like the front 5…I think Hudson becomes your #5 here…..your depth is a little scary after that with Ogando/Bedard – Ogando might be squeezed out of the rotation in favor of Darvish (or at least that's one possibility I've seen thrown around) and Bedard is always hurt….But, there are a lot of chances to pick up a 6th starter throughout the year, and the return you're getting in Teheran/Miller probably makes it worth doing.
It might be hard to move Choo….but you do still have Kemp and Gardner.
Offlinethanks bob, even if it's just you and I bouncing things off each other in the boards, at least they'll get some use : )
The way you broke it down is exactly how I am seeing it. I still haven't pulled the trigger because I'd like for Choo to not be part of the deal. But I may end up doing it down the road if we can't get it worked out a different way.
I have had a lot of success in dynasty football, and the biggest key is to always think ahead while playing for the now (easier said than done), but selling guys at their peak value is the primary way to do this.
I see Hudson declining with age here, he can't keep this up and I really don't see Price becoming that lock down dominant guy, partly because of the run support and division he plays in.
OfflineGiving up Choo…you're at least getting back Rios in the deal and he should it up similar HR and SB numbers to Choo…probably with about an.260 average. So that's not a big ding to your offense really. Teheran may be contributing a lot as soon as this year, and definitely next. Then when miller hits….that's a heck of a 1-2 punch (hopefully, if they both pan out)
Offlinethat's what I was thinking all along too, but everyone else on a different board was crucifying me for even considering this. To me Rios is a more risky cheaper version of Choo. I figure if I can get 80% of Choo out of Rios, I would be happy with that. Thanks again for the input. I still think I'm going to be waiting on this trade for a bit (I don't see anyone else willing to offer what we have on the table for those prospects) and see how some of the players in the deal look into spring training.
Glad to see your knowledgeable of the prospects too, I think that was part of it in the other forum is that people didn't realize the upside of their value. And even making this trade, my rotation takes a bit of a hit, but I think I'm still at least top 3-5 in rotations in the league with making this trade.
OfflineI've always followed minor and major leagues…..it's always fun to know what players are in the pipeline and you have to know this stuff if you're going to play in a deep fantasy league with prospects, etc.
I think Rios is a poor man's Choo, basically. Looking at the rest of your lineup…Fielder, Weeks, Kemp, Gardner….I don't think this kills your offense at all. Choo is a better player, yes…but if you are loading up for the futue while fielding a competitive team in the present, you've gotta pay to get those top notch prospects.
