Well, we had Ryan Braun as our top player heading into 2012…and after that the news broke that he tested positive for steroids.  News came out that his appeal isn't going to fly, so we've dropped him down to the #37 position.  That's the beginning of round 4 for 12 team leagues; is that too high or too low for a guy who will miss the first 50 games (we think)?

Anyways, the new #1 is the guy you are all so familiar with in the #1 position, i.e., Albert Pujols.  Is that right, especially without Matt Holiday and Lance Berkman as protection in the line-up anymore?  Now you're looking at Torri Hunter?  Vernon Wells?  Sophmore bat Mark Trumbo?  Maybe Kendrys Morales comes back?

We figure, no matter what, Albert will find a way.

A belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I'm just writing to check in with you guys, its been a while. How are you and the family Bones? Well, the Padres actually dished out the cash for a real clean up hitter in Carlos Quentin(if he can stay healthy) while downgrading in the closer position. I don't know what's going on with the Halos. I thought of you today Bones, because I signed up for my yahoo basketball team(lucky me, I get to draft today also). I remembered what a good time I had with you in our league last year. Ryan Braun busted for roids, shame on him! Those days are supposed to be over. And yes, I agree Albert will find a way.

Good to hear from you Roy.  Christmas was great; the church leadership gave us a bonus vacation, i.e., the week between Christmas and New Year's off, and I'm feeling refreshed!  Hope you and yours had a great Holiday too!

Quentin is a great grab by the Padres.  I was rather shocked that they went out and got a guy of his caliber, what with all the cost cutting in their operation the past few years…and with shipping off Heath Bell and Mat Latos.  I imagine he will lose some power potential in that ballpark compared to the south side of Chicago, BUT will make up for it in volume.  As you said, as long as he stays healthy.

Surely you know the Angels signed the Big Fish in the free agent pool?  A fellow named Albert Pujols.  And he did a contract that allowed them to sign C.J. Wilson?  What's going on in Anaheim is a desire to win the division again.  It's become a two and two division: Two "haves" and two "have nots." Wouldn't want to be a Mariner or A's fan with what has happened in that division.  And yes, of course you know, since you responded to my Pujols comment post.

I like that basketball started…something to do between fantasy football ending and baseball in April.  More on that at another time.

Good to hear from you my friend!

I had no idea Pujols came here! WOW! That's awesome! I'll for sure be driving north on the I-5 to OC and catch more Halo games this year. I'm located an hour away from the big A and Petco, so Baseball wise I live in a good part of SoCal. I don't get the newspaper so I'm clueless on some stuff. Like yesterday, I drafted Manu Ginobili and Zack Randolph early. I'm glad to hear your family and you are doing well! Is there an email address you can give me in case I need your expert opinion in basketball so I don't use these baseball pages? My email is jmartin92008@yahoo.com if you just want to drop it of there. Yeah, The number 1 complaint here about the Padres was the lack of a legit clean up hitter, it's shocking they gave us what we wanted.

Roy – Padres got a great haul from the Reds as well…nice trade for you guys that should help a TON in the long run.

Albert to the Halos will be interesting…still lots of big names unsigned out there…like Prince Fielder for starters.  Will be intersting to see how things shake out over the next couple of weeks!

Bring on spring training!

Amen Bob, bring on Spring Training, especially after that so-called (yawn) college national championship game.

At least the NFL is always interesting in the playoffs, especially this year with all the Tebow hysteria.  Loved that Bronco-Steeler game.  I'm a Bronco fan and I LITERALLY fell out of my chair twice that game.  As you can guess, one of those times was the 1st play in over-time 80 yard TD to win it from Tebow to Thomas.

Anyways, still love baseball, and excited we have turned the corner towards a new year.  Fielder, Ryan Madson, and others…can't wait to see where they sign and how line-ups shake out.

Roy, will be sending you my e-mail shortly.  Write back and tell me your roster, what looks enticing on the waiver wire, etc.  If they are not scooped up yet, Marshon Brooks of New Jersey and Iman Shumpert of New York are two rookies who are going to get a ton of minutes and opportunity going forward.  They both went off BIG last night, so run to your waiver wire to see if your league-mates missed them.

Good to talk with you guys again.

Hey Guys! Sorry its taken so long to get back on board but I've had a few very time time consuming things on my plate. But, now that I'm wrapping up my Basketball playoff ends it's time for BASEBALL! By the way, Thanks John, I know I asked for help but I ended up pulling my teams together, thanks again for the helping gesture(I scooped up Lin and Thomas Jr. for all four of my teams just at the right times). I'm also in the midst of trying to finish up my music, I've been recording and writing a four song EP off and on for the last three and a half years and I'm getting closer to finishing.

Baseball wise, I have my one team in this league and one ESPN "friends" league. ESPN and or the commish in this league is terrible. There has to be a majority vote on the draft date and not enough managers have voted causing our draft date to be canceled three times now, frustrating. So, I don't know if that league will ever get started. I was unprepared for our draft this year. I was just going by my instinks(Freudian slip) from last season having watched zero spring expo games. I'm thinking about joining a Yahoo $20 league.

Well, Bob and John, I'm happy to be back here with you guys! You've never steered me wrong and I feel a great friendship with both of you(as good as friends can be in cyberspace, haha)! Yeah the Pads are looking better this year as John Elways investment group sold back controlling interest to the previous owner who loves the team but was involved in a multi million dollar divorce but is finished with that, so no more fire sale. The Halos are back in championship contention, it's gonna be fun to go see them both play this year, HERE WE GO!

"Cyber Buddies", I like that.

I'm ready for some baseball now too Roy. I always get caught up in the fantasy basketball playoffs, and kind of feel a sense of relief when that season ends. I have an annual tradition it seems of going downstairs on the final night when all is said and done and watch tv for the first time in ages. I channel surfed between "War of the Worlds", "Rambo 4", "Grand Torino", and "The Blindside." I won 5 of 10 championships again. Seems I get half my leagues each year, so may cut the number of teams since I don't have anything to prove to myself there anymore.

Anyways, it's late, so off to bed. Good to see ya back Roy.

Gran Torino's a great movie! I haven't seen The Blindside but have been wanting to see it. I went 1 for 4 in Basketball, the team I won with, won real easy but the other 3 team were a struggle with injuries and once were in the playoff had to claw my way to round two, I feel unfulfilled with Basketball but glad it's over and Baseball's here. I'm bummed cause Elsbury has that injury, last year I watched teams with him wallop me, now this season I thought I'm grabbing him early, oh well, he'll be back in a couple of months. Cheers to ya John!

Man, I'm real glad basketball is over too. That concluded, Easter finished (my busy time), a conflict at work finally worked out, and TAXES sent off, whew, I feel like I am in a new season.

You HAVE to see the Blindside. I still don't understand how it did not win Film of the Year that year. Great great story.

Oh, by the way, QUIT whomping my bum in baseball this week!!!!!
