Can someone give me some insight on Danny Duffy?

Hey Bob, you are our resident expert on the Royals and their upcoming talent.  I see Danny Duffy had his first start of the season.  The numbers look bad, but another writer was all gah-gah about his potential.  Should I consider picking him up in my very deep league that is devoid of talent on the waiver wire…especially since I'm weakest at pitcher?

Yes.  If you can get him…the kid has all-world talent.  If it was a dynasty, it'd be a no-brainer.  But since you say the benches are deep in this one…go for it.  Worst case scenario, he flames out and you drop him a couple of weeks from now…but if your benches are that deep, it can't hurt to grab him.

Considering his first outing was against a solid lineup like Texas (even without a couple of their bashers) he did ok….he looked a little jittery at times in that game…but he also showed great ability to bail himself out of the jams he worked himself into. For a lefty to have the tools he has…especially the power pitching ability mixed with his other stuff…..is not that common really.  Usually for whatever reason, lefties tend to be one or the other, with some exceptions.  I could see him being a Cole Hamels type of pitcher if he reaches his ceiling.

Also, the Royals will have him on a little bit of a leash/pitch count.  He only threw 80 something pitches in his first game…but I'd say a lot of them were "high stress" pitches…where he was in a jam, etc.  He had a lot of situations with men on base, etc….but he always got himself back on track with a K or groundball.

Thanks Bob.  Duffy starts on Tuesday in Baltimore, so I made the move.  Don't usually stream pitchers on away games, especially rookies, but if he is what I'm seeing written about him, like you said, it's worth a grab.  Unless he gets completely bombed, I'll keep him around a while like you suggest.

So Duffy pitched well enough to get the win!

He left with the lead!!

In line for the win entering the 9th inning!!!

And Soria, one of the best RP's in the game, comes in and gives up 3 runs, thus blowing the win for Duffy and the Royals.

THANKS A LOT SORIA!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and on that same team, I lost De La Rosa for the season.

Sure hope Duffy's the real deal, because that waiver wire is awful skimpy….

Soria's a little "off" this year….to say the least.  Duffy got pulled in the 5th (like I said, he's on a pitch count) but struck out 6 and like you said, was in line for the win.

Don't know if you actually saw him pitch at all….but between he and Britton last night….not sure if I've seen better curveballs from lefties this year.  Those two have bright futures for sure….
