Crazy Trade Offers and the equally unstable owners who offer them....

Wow.  Looks like I'm in for a doozy of a ride in one private league.

I've played with this guy in baseball last year, then football.  He is very competitive, which I like.  But he can be a bit nasty, especially with the smack talk.  I don't get into it with him; I just compliment him on his competitiveness and leave it at that.

But yesterday was something.

He is the commish in this league, and he set up some crazy categories.  There are 8 in the hitting realm, and 9 in pitching.  The pitching slants towards starters, what with "complete games", "shut outs", "no hitters", and "perfect games" as part of the mix (yes, there are many ties in the standings).

So he's been frustrated, because no one will trade him for one of his 8 relief pitchers.  The one trade he did manage to pull off got voted down by the league because it was so lopsided.  I am in terrible shape with relief pitchers, but don't want to strengthen his hitting just so I can get  a few saves.

So he blew up yesterday.

Seems another guy asked for offers, and he wanted to send the guy Bobby Abreau, Health Bell, and John Axford for………..Matt Holliday.  When the other owner politely said no, he started calling everyone in the league every name in the book.

We, apparently, are idiots because we wouldn't want to see him get one of the best hitters in baseball for chump change.

It will be interesting to see where this goes from here…….

Love guys like that…in a dynasty league, I drafted David Wright when we started up…had him ever since.  The last three seasons this guy keeps trying to trade me garbage for Wright.  He finally let me know that I'm crazy for not taking his offers because "Wright sucks."

My reply was, "If he sucks so bad, why do you send me a trade offer for him about 10 days or so?"  I haven't heard back yet.

Yes!  What is it with the strategy of "this guy sucks so you should trade him to me."?  I have run into that one a lot over the years.  Do guys know that they sound, what is the word, well, "stupid" when they make that argument?

And of course, in their logic, since your stud player "sucks" so bad, they send you 2 or 3 guys who suck worse than him.  As if MORE garbage is going to make it right?

Yes, gotta love guys like that.  Makes certain leagues that more interesting.  My only concern in this league is the guy is the commish; who knows what he could pull?

I knew this was only going to get better………

So I go on yesterday and notice a trade has taken place.  Which is curious, because I never saw the "pending trade" announcement about it, where I could vote to veto it if I thought it was unfair.

So I go to the transaction list, and sure enough, the fearless leader himself, who has been acting like a 4 year old throwing temper tantrums, changed the league rules from "league votes" to "commissioner review."  Well, how convenient for him, especially with the trade he pulled off an hour later….

He gave up Bobby Abreau (who I have seen dropped to the waiver wire in 3 of my other 9 leagues), Todd Cahill (who no one expects to keep up this pace), and J. Valverde (giving up a closer in a league that values starters much more).

In return, he "only" received Chase Utley and Nelson Cruz, who have the potential to end as 2 of the top 25 players in fantasy when all is said and done.

And I am pretty confident he has no clue that this might upset folks in the league.  So far, no one has posted anything.  Which is weird, because half the league is on there every day throwing out smack talk.  Hmmmmmmmmm

Hmmmmm, thought I'd get more response on this post….

Well, I let him know how I feel.

There is one woman who plays in the league…she happens to be in 1st place…and I happen to be playing her this week.

So he posts on our match-up "go get the b**** aardvark!"

So I wrote back, "Why ask me?  Why don't you just change the rules again to get what you want?"

I didn't think that would phase him too much, and I may have been right as he responded with "maybe I will"  -and-  "Jealous?"

The 'jealous' one I couldn't let slide, and this being smack talk and all, thought I'd send him this one: "Jealous?  I'm not the one acting like a 5 year old throwing temper tantrums because I didn't get my way.  The only thing you left out was 'it's mine, mine, MINE!!!"

I'm kind of expecting my team functions to be frozen any day now, lol.

Yes, that is the first thought (to contact yahoo).  But I've played on yahoo for 5 years now and have seen this before.  Others have told me they contact yahoo, but they just write back and say since it is a "private" league (as opposed to their public ones), there is nothing they can do.

It's o.k., I'll just do everything I can to win the league and show them how it's done, lol.

Actually, another guy came on and said he thought if the 2 sides were fine with the trade, it should not be voted on.  I actually agree with that; I actually get frustrated that you have to wait 4 or 5 days for the darn deal to go through.  I pointed out my only issue was changing the rules 2 months into the season (and I left out "for the sake of one individual").

Oh, and I went up 8-5 on the 1st place team tonight….

Oh, and about booting the commish.  Well, he started the league, and sent out all the invites.  I imagine a bunch of his friends are in the league, so I doubt that that will happen.  And of course, since it's a lot of his friends, I could go all conspiracy theory about the deal, and, I need to not go down that road.  Heck, I just need to let this one go…….

That's the way to do it!  Just go win the damn thing.  A buddy and I played in a league together a couple years back, and this one guy we didn't know criticized EVERY pick we both made.  Literally.  So we started to fire back at the guy…and wouldn't you know, we finished 1-2 in the league!  That shut that guy up…..

Just an update, I have climbed from a low of 10th place in week 3 to first place last week.  Think I have a good chance of holding the one seed over the next week and a half.

The commish, who pulled off two more lop-sided trades, has finished in a flurry and climbed from a middle of the pack 6th place to 3rd or 4th.  He can't get the 2 seed.

Of course, when I pointed my rise out, I have gotten nothing but the angry, "it doesn't matter; what matters is the playoffs." And then on smack talk he posts, "Movin' on up like the Jefferson's" to denote his rise of 2 places in the standings.  Yes, doesn't sound like it matters much does it, lol?

Hopefully I won't have my Josh Hamilton and Joe Mauer types get hurt this year when I play him like what happened last season.  It's gonna be rough though, as there are no byes in this leagues playoffs.  Normally playing the 7 or 8 seed would be no problem, but those guys are engaged with their teams right now and fighting to get in.  And as we all know, in baseball especially, it is tough to win 3 straight weeks in a row.  But I do have a secret weapon….

O.k. Bob, I'm on it.

Finished with a 5 and a half game lead for the #1 seed yesterday.

8 teams make the playoffs, but the 8 seed is not paying attention (he got in ahead of 2 guys who were…fantasy is brutal sometimes).  He has some key guys on his bench, so I should advance to the semi's.

There, I could meet up with the commish.

Will be interesting…..

PS:  Oh, this is the league where the commish cancelled my Randy Wolf for Chris Perez trade.  Sure hope it comes back to bite him!

Congrats on the 10th to first climb! Smack talkers are just that, TALKERS. If smack talk is not funny and not good natured then forget them. Don't get psyched out by having to keep up a three week streak, just take it one week at a time. One week at a time always helps me from feeling overwhelmed. Good luck buddy!

P.S. Ive clinched a playoff berth with one of my public teams(San Diego 13, the league the infamous HowieDoinn's in) holding at #3 with no chance at catching #2 with a few days left in the regular season. I've also procured a #4 spot in my 2nd league (San Diego Madres 1). I haven't officially clinched but a whole lot of stuff would have to happen for me not to make it. I'd say I have about a 99% chance of staying at #4 and a 99.8% chance of making it. THANKS! for all the awesome advice, tips and heads ups on up and coming players! Last year my seasons saw no playoff and Thanks to You(Bones) and Bob and anyone else I forgot for all the Xtreme help!!!Cool
