Ironically, I have both Kendrick and Wandy Rodriguez on my roster, but haven't given-up on either. Mainly because stats/trends tends to never lie…
If you take a glimpse of Kendrick's career numbers, he's hit 2-HR, 13 RBI, 41-K/8-BB, and this is where it gets initially more depressing… .184 BA, .227 OBP, .265 SLG, and .492 OPS…. Obviously, some of the worst stats possible and several have more than likely have released him for the "Flavor of the Month" 2B.
In Contrast:
June: 2-HR, 22-RBI, 43-K/9-BB, .288 BA, .319 OBP, .396 SLG, .716 OPS
July: 6-HR, 46-RBI, 36-K/11-BB, .398 BA, .424 OBP, .597 SLG, 1.021 OPS
August: 3-HR, 32-RBI, 48-K/14-BB, .298 BA, .333 OBP, .405 SLG, .738 OPS
September: 5-HR, 35-RBI, 45-K/5-BB, .307 BA, .326 OBP, .447 SLG, .773 OPS
He'll be 27 in July and still has some slight upside. There are not many better 2B available in any league who can generate those types of stats… Plus, he is decent at SB as well…. Does this mean that I rank him in the top-10 of 2B? Not necessarily, but he's very servicable and improves as the season progresses….
The main question is that does he finally play an entire season without being plagued by injuries? He hasn't played in more than 105 games/374 ABs in 1-season (which was '09)….. If you were to prorate his stats for a 162 game season, this would be the following:
10-HR, 76-RBI, 15-SBs, 23-BB/104-K, .299 BA, .331 OBP, .429 SLG, .760 OPS
That doesn't put him up there with the likes of Utley, Kinsler (when healthy), and/or Pedroia, but could vault him into the top-10 rather easily if he finally does play an entire season and sustains all of that.
Regarding Wandy Rodriguez, May & June are typically his worst months, but he usually turns it around in July, so best to remain patient on him since there are probably not too many reliable starters available on waivers who impacts most of the categories as he does…..
