Jeff Francoeur trade offers...this could be funny

I'm in a deep league with a bunch of rowdy guys (and one gal), who think smack talk is an excuse to act like 7th graders.

So I threw out my maximum allowed trade offers today, looking for a relief pitcher in exchange for Jeff Francoeur.  I just know some of these guys are going to go ballistic with their "are you crazy" comments, even though Jeff is the #37 ranked player in fantasy to this point.  I'll keep you posted with any funny comments…..

BTW, you can't pick up RP's off the wire at all in this league.  All the closers are gone, as well as most of the set-up men.  The only way to get someone is by trade.  I'm fully expecting to get a counter offer such as:

Matt Capps for Josh Hamilton.

Seriously.

Jeff's having a great year, you should be able to get a solid closer for him. But, like you said there are no closer on the wavier wire so the trade will have to be with someone who doesn't need a closer or a deadbeat and or part time manager. Yeah, let me know how those kids react, haha

I called it.

Not but 2 hours later I get a counter offer, albeit a tad bit better than Matt Capps:

Mariano Rivera  for  Josh Hamilton.

Gee guys, whadaya think?  (Personally, I think I'll wait and see what the 5 others come up with…lol).

Yes, easy to forget who Josh is, whatwith him being a Chinadoll and missing so much time.  A part of me wanted to pull the trigger so I wouldn't have to deal with anymore injury headaches with him.  Love the guy, but breaking his arm on that headfirst slide to home plate last month…are you kidding me?

Didn't have a chance however, as the other guy pulled the deal off  the table!

In other news:

The league commish chided me for filling up my trade box, thus not allowing him to counter offer.  Uhhh, dude, say no to my offer and then counter…

Gonna be some slow response since it's Memorial day weekend.  Still, I couldn't resist a little smack talk whatwith the language issue in this league, so this morning I posted: "Come on boys, I'm waiting on 6 of you for trade offers.  Don't tell me in this league that you are all in church this morning!?"

Got one response after that, a counter.  Guy is willing to give me Chris Perez like I asked.  For David Ortiz.  Sigh.  The sad thing is I might just do it because I picked up Ortiz off the waiver wire a few weeks ago, so it's like I'm not really losing anything you know?

But we'll see how the other responses go after everyone is back from the holiday.

I won't be able to do anything tomorrow, as I take my first trip to Safeco Field for the M's vs. the Orioles.  It will be nice to be in a major league park again!!

And one last offer came in today, from the wily commish…..

He offered me the guy I asked for, Heath Bell, along with the currently DL'ed Josh Johnson, and Johnny Damon

for

Jacoby Ellsbury, Andrew McCutchen, and Micheal Young.

I thanked him for the decent offer, but I am a little leary of starting pitchers who go on the DL for shoulder issues….a relief pitcher who is being talked about being traded and becoming a possible set-up man for a contender, and another outfielder who would just sit on my bench (I have 10 already).

And then when I went to look for Francouer's current ranking (who I offered for Bell), I saw that the 3 guys he asked for are all in the top 43, with Ellsbury at #7.

So I also shared that I think those 3 guys are a big reason I am climbing in the standings, ie, 10th place after week 2 to 4th place today.  And I'm only four and a half out of first!

You would think I could get a relief pitcher for the 46th overall ranked player, BUT, Jeff doesn't have "THE NAME", so it probably won't happen.  Sigh.

Ha…just logging in for the first time in a couple of days and catching up here…sounds like a funny group to play with.

I'd think you could get SOMETHING for Francouer….but given his track record, folks may be leary about trading for him…waiting for the bottom to fall out on his hot start.

You nailed it Bob.  One of the guys who did counter at least, went on after I posted a note about Francouer, and basically pointed out to all my potential trade partners that he expected Jeff to "fall back to the mean."  So regardless what the numbers say, it is a combination of the name, AND what he has done in the past.

It's ok though.  I finally got A. Bailey back, and the way Melancon in Houston is going, I may have 2 relief pitchers going forward.

I'll just hold on to Jeff, and if he continues his freefall of the past couple of weeks I can cut him  OR  (and I really hope for this) he bounces back and goes on another tear and I can reap those benefits and say I told you so.

Anyways, having so many hitters hasn't hurt me, as in the past 4 or 5 weeks I've climbed from 10th to 4th without ever winning the saves category.  Hence, I will not be giving up David Ortiz for a mere relief pitcher.

Actually I caught wind of that possibility about 4 or 5 days ago, YET Crow was already taken.

That's the funny thing about this league….set-up men are taken in advance in anticipation of becoming closers.

YET, I have been able to add hitters ahead of everyone else, having snatched David Ortiz (who was dropped in April), Matt Joyce, Micheal Morse, and even Brandon Belt the other day.

My strategy at this point is to re-offer 2 guys for one stud RP and see if there are any bites.

If not, I'll just ride my hitters out for the year.  No doubt one or two of them will encounter an injury, but I'll have replacements available.

And I'll hope to get just one more RP ahead of everyone else at some point in the next two or three months.
