Now you'll know I'm nuts about this game.

This strategy is probably for those with deeper benches OR a small but excellent pitching staff OR even those contending with injuries.  This is the ultimate back-up plan, and you have to be able/willing to follow your line-ups daily for it to work.

In this strategy, I stock my bench with players from teams on the West Coast, i.e., the SF Giants, SD Padres, LA Dodgers, LA Angels, Seattle Mariners, and the Oakland A's.  And this is for the simple reason that the majority of their games during the fantasy playoffs are played on the west coast, i.e., later in the day.  So the idea is to check those 4:00 and 5:00 starts to see if your guys are playing.  If not, then you have guys playing later who you can insert, thus ensuring the "possibility" of some stats, as opposed to none at all.

I say "possibility", because if you look at the squads listed, it isn't exactly hitters paradise.  And of course, all the studs these teams DO have will be gone.  But you can find last month value on some of these teams.  For example, the Padres have gone on a hitting spree lately and guys like Venable, Blanks, and even Guzman may be available to help you out.  In one of my leagues I have Tulo at SS, but no back-up.  But there sits Jason Bartlett, he of the .300 BA and 22 steals.  Nice back-up.

To help you out further, here is a list of "west coast" games played for each team listed above for the weeks of Sept. 5-11, Sept. 12-18, and Sept. 19-28:

SF GIANTS:  Play 15 of 22 on the coast, and also have 4 at Colorado and 3 at Arizona.

SD PADRES:  Play 15-22 on the coast, and have 3 at Colorado and 4 at Arizona.

LA DODGERS:  Play 16-23 on the coast, and also have 4 at Washington and 3 at Arizona.

LA ANGELS:  Play 15-22 on the coast, and also have 3 at Baltimore and 4 at Toronto.

SEATTLE MARINERS:  Play 16-23 on the coast, with 1 at Cleveland, 3 at Minnesota, and 3 at Texas.

OAKLAND A's:  Play 19 of 22 on the coast, with 3 at Texas.

If you scan the above, you can see the A's have the best schedule using this strategy, and the Angels have the worst.  Good luck!

This becomes even more of a possibility considering the rash of injuries that are starting to hit (which always do at this time of the year BTW).  Take a look at my "injury bug" post for an example.
