Yes, it is Mid-Season, at least for us fantasy players.  It's the Two and a Half Month mark, and that's how long we have to go before the Fantasy Playoffs begin.  So, to honor Roy for his post about players hitting worse than pitchers, I came up with this idea to "honor" those who have flamed out as far as our fantasy expectations went back in the Spring.  Some of you more astute players (you, not me, lol), may even see some of those classic "buy low" options in the following list.  Guys who, if they bounce back, can fuel your playoff run or help you obtain a higher seed.  So with that, I give you my list of the "ALL-TANK TEAM."

Catcher: Joe Mauer.  34 At-bats thus far is all you need to know.  Is that fair to put a guy on the list who has been hurt?  I say yes; some choose to ignore the warnings this past year and went ahead and drafted him as the number one catcher anyways.  But the good news is he is on the verge of coming back.  Still, for the first half, he TANKED!

1B: Justin Morneau.  Coming off a concussion, one didn't expect the drop-off to be this bad!  Before being hurt last year, Morneau was the league AND fantasy MVP.  In just 296 at-bats he had jacked 18 HR's and drove in 56 runs with a .345 batting average.  How the mighty have fallen.  In 213 at-bats this year, he has a mere 4 HR's and 25 RBI's while hitting a only .225.

2B: Dan Uggla.  Covered him in the Player Spotlights.  For those who own him, they probably don't need reminding….

3B: Evan Longoria.  The numbers aren't as atrocious as the 2 players right above, but still, when you are the pre-season #4 player, more is expected of you.  As in more than 5 HR's and 19 RBI and a .260 BA.  Steals are down from 15 to one so far this season too.

SS: Hanley Ramirez.  The pre-season #2 overall player has astounded us with a .210 BA, 4 HR, and 17 RBI.  At least he has 11 steals.  Yippee

LF: Delmon Young.  Last years break-out season is a distant memory.  Finally showing his talent, he had hit a line of .298-21-112 AND had fantasy owners dreaming of more.  I wonder how many dynasty owners are grinding their teeth this season with his line currently at .246-2-17?

CF: Alex Rios.  Most thought last year was more than should be expected.  And though one might have expected the pendulum to swing the other way, I think most of us are surprised the darn thing broke!  ALL the stats are down, but the stolen bases going from 34 to 4?   One might suspect an undisclosed injury.

RF: Jason Heyward.  In the news lately for all the wrong reasons.  When Chipper Jones calls you out for not playing through pain?  Well, that's bad.  As were his numbers before the DL list.  The HR's were ok, but a .214 BA with a mere 15 ribbees?  Keep telling yourself:   "He's only 21, he's only 21."

UTIL: Adam Dunn.  Dunn has gone and done bad.  The perennial 40 HR hitter does have 7 so far, but that is coupled with a .180 batting average.  And that is in the hitter's park of the Chicago White Sox!  Maybe the change in leagues has gone and done him no good.

UTIL: David Wright.  Another one of those pre-season Top 10 players gone bad.  Maybe his GM is right; maybe Wright is no superstar.  A .226 line with only 18 RBI's backs up his boss.

SP: Ubaldo Jiminez.  In my draft, on my turn in something like the 5th round my friend called out his name for me (I'm a Rockies fan).  I said, "No, not this time."  Thought I got a steal for the almost Cy Young award winner of '09 in round 6.  One win, a 4.62 ERA, and  1.37 WHIP later, not so much.

SP: Chris Carpenter.  Maybe the age 36 number should of warned us, but I don't think anyone saw this much of a drop-off coming.  Another stud pitcher with only one win, his ERA is Jiminez like at 4.47, and the WHIP is 1.39.  Sigh.

RP: Ryan Franklin.  Not a superstar of the relief ranks, but he did save 27 last year for a good team with Dave Duncan as the pitching coach. So what explains the drop to one save and the 7.23 ERA with the 1.69 WHIP?  Well, if Duncan can't answer that, neither can I!

There you have it.  Now this is MY list; feel free to share who I should of included.

WOULD BE REAL INTERESTED IN ANYONE'S THOUGHTS ABOUT WHO MIGHT REBOUND IN THE SECOND HALF THIS SEASON!

Can't argue much with your picks……Here would be my all bust team:

C – Carlos Santana – barely hitting .200…thought this was going to be a huge year for him.  Mauer is a close second but I took him off my list because of injury, and I don't think he was healthy when he was playing….he'll likely come off the DL and rake.

1B – Albert Pujols – Most people took him #1 overall….he's hitting .274.  Not #1 overall numbers (although he's coming on and I think he'll have good numbers at the end of the year.

2B – Dan Uggla – Enough said.

3B – David Wright – was hot and cold (mostly cold) and now on the DL.  I still love his game…but a lousy year so far.

SS – Hanley Ramirez - Probably taken right after Pujols in most drafts…..just awful this year.

OF – Carl Crawford – not even close to what Boston thought they were getting.  .246 AVG, 6 homers, and only 8 steals?!??!?

OF – Jayson Werth  – Got a huge payday…batting .236.  Ouch.

OF – Shin Soo Choo – gone from a .300 AVG/.400 OBP/.885 OPS to .234/.315/.659

UTIL – Adam Dunn – just like Uggla….I don't think I need to say more.

SP – Ubaldo Jiminez – see Bones' comments.  Although…I think he'll have a great rest of the year.

SP – Chris Carpenter – fell off a cliff.  His skills seem to have eroded a bit.  And it happened REALLY quickly.

SP – Randy Wells – Thought I'd add another SP….not a GREAT SP, but a sub 4 ERA in his career…this year it's right around 6.5

RP – Ryan Franklin – Soria was a close second, but Soria's back to his old self.  Franklin went from solid closer to the sewer.

Some interesting differences….

If I had allowed myself another UTIL, Shin Soo-Choo would of been the next to hear his name called….

Pujols and Crawford I left off because lately they have been raking and I don't see it stopping either…..

Werth is a good call, but I left him off because he signed with the Nationals.  Isn't Washington D.C. the place where talent goes to die?

Missed on the Carlos Santana  one…good call in light of the fact Mauer is injured (although I think I red-flagged him in pre-season because I was fearful he wouldn't make it the whole year.  Sure didn't expect half the year to go by though!).

If I had a 2nd team, Ichiro would have to be on it.  He was close.

And like every year, too many pitchers to name.  Interesting we both went with Jiminez and Carpenter.

Soria…I love it…picked him up in 2 leagues because guys dropped him.  Then right after that he got the job back as closer.  GOTTA LOVE IT.

What an honor! Thanks guys. I'll just give you my "Main Bust Of The Midway Point". The winner(or should I say loser) is…… HANLEY RAMIREZ, he went from a number 2 pick with a Yahoo! pre rating of two and as of today is ranked number three hundred in the Yahoo! rankings. Hitting just .210 with only four HRs. Eleven stolen bases is the only stat that is respectable. I personally don't have him on my teams so I have not felt the failure but I hope this young talent turns it around for his family's sake. I hope all these tanks listed really get it together.

The fact that there are so many busts this year is almost comical. To see some of these overpaid players do bad makes it slightly entertaining. Heck, it may even help the game of baseball by lowering the pay this may cause a trickle down effect. Ticket prices may go down due to salary cuts. Hey skidding players, keep up the bad work!

FYI Michael Jordan Hit .202/3 HRs/51 RBIs/30 SBs while playing 127 games and 436 ABs. His Batting coach said his swing was there but facing all the top prospect pitchers in the AA Southern League, some whom went on to the majors for good caused the low BA(all stats taken from ESPN). I believe there is some logic here that applies to the current low BAs. I think there are a group of young pitchers that are tearing it up but its not showing to much in their stats. Jhouyls Chasin, Jair Jurrjens and lefty's like Leblanc plus many more are playing well, it's just not as apparent because the household name pitchers haven't really stood out.

Was just thinking we should do an "all-surprise team" and an all-star team of just the best fantasy players across the board (whether overacheivers or not).

Hopefully that's a "great minds think a like" moment.

I've pretty much got the "all-surprise" team set up…just have to find a block of time to post it…probably Thursday.

Would you like to take the "all-star" team?  I think there is enough goodness out there that it can be a bit different than the surprise guys.  Maybe a couple would cross over to both, but that would be fine.

Let me know!
