With the NFL continuing its crusade to be the "No Fun League" and instituting further rules to protect the players (sneezing on an opponent, that's a 5 yard penalty!) by trying to eliminate "hard" hits, would anyone venture to guess how long it will take MLB to institute rules against running down catchers?

I'm sure they'll dub it the "Pete Rose rule."  I'm guessing the day is coming where they'll state you have to slide; ie, if you make body contact in an upright position with a catcher you'll get tossed from the game.

Man I hope not….it's just part of the game…look at the number of times a catcher gets nailed vs. the number of major injuries and I'd bet it's pretty minimal.

Of course he did.  But  I still think that would be a mistake.  Like I said…look through the history of baseball…how many times have catchers been mowed down?  How many times have they been hurt that badly?  A pretty tiny fraction.  Leave it alone, Selig.

Isolated incident in my opinion. More times than not the catcher doesn't get hurt like that. That was nasty! But i also think no change is in order.

"Leave it alone Selig?"  You're asking Bud not to touch the game?  That's like asking bees to stay away from honey.
