OfflineIt's that time of the year. I am sad because the regular season is over. The daily games, the pennant chases, the storylines, all but gone for another off-season. Not to mention the daily fantasy scores, player add/drops, trade possibilities, etc. etc. Gonna miss it. Fantasy football is fun, but it's not the same; in fact it is much more frustrating. And it only happens once a week. Sigh, maybe I have to get back to my real life again, especially with basketball looking like it will be cancelled.
On the other hand, what an incredible finish to the season last night. More on that in another spot. But the other awesome thing is the playoffs are upon us. Always the best baseball of the year. And in an odd twist, I can enjoy the purity of each game, i.e., not worry about the fantasy implications of various situations.
ENJOY!
OfflineYeah John, last night was definitely bitter/sweet. On one hand, I won my first Baseball championship(Yahoo Public 148402, haha) along with winning a 3rd place nail biter against Bob(who, along with you, I have the utmost respect for and consider a mentor in fantasy baseball). In a way I wish I would have lost that match. In my third match, which was also a 3rd place match(Yahoo Public 147930) ended up in a tie(just like the semi final match before that in which Yahoo determined me the loser). Well, Yahoo did it again, they deemed me the loser. Oh well, winning my first championship is good enough. I had a blast this year and am gonna miss the daily managing duties, football will help me taper off but with basketball on the burner maybe I should try Ice Hockey(unless it's closed)
PS Those games last night were incredible! Especially The Rays vs Yankees game, The Rays are looking like The Giants of last years. Plus I'm a bit biased because I was born in Florida, I moved to California when I was 7. Go Rays!
OfflineHockey won't close on yahoo until the end of October, early November. It's a tough one to do because of unfamiliarity with the players. But I've had a team called "Av's Stew" the past 3 years to keep it interesting. I take all the best Colorado Avalanche players (pre-draft ranking) I can, plus usually one or two stud players or goalies (Av players aren't ranked too high, so I can get some good guys in rounds one and two). Then I use my add/drops each week. I've won the championship two out of three years.
CONGRATS on your first championship! I hope you had a cold on that night and just sat there and enjoyed it. Takes a lot of work to win a baseball championship.
I don't know if you recall, but in that league I wanted to win so badly, the commish was non-stop critical of me for caring about where I ended in the standings. He is of the elk that says, "what matters is the playoffs." Well, how you do in the regular season in yahoo affects the playoffs. You were determined the loser in each series, because the first tie-breaker is head-to-head winning percentage during the regular season. The second tie-breaker is where you finish in the standings. So that explains that, and why I try every week to get the win.
Yes, Bob is great. I have more posts around here, but I think he has more wisdom.
But you my friend have come a long ways. Good job, and stick around, we have off-season work to do!
OfflineHey guys….I feel the love coming from this thread… ; )
Sorry I've been wrapped up with some personal stuff so been off the boards a bit….but baseball is never far from my mind. I'm still in full baseball mode 5 weeks into the NFL season.
Congrats Roy on your championship – and on beating me! I made the decision to stick with the guys who got me there…probably should have shuffled some guys onto the roster but don't know if it would have made a difference. You put a nice team together.
