OfflineThis is piggybacking on my "Time to Get Ready" post of yesterday, but it's importance bears repeating.
You have to be VERY aware of your line-up/rosters concerning injuries during the playoffs. Some guys are just going to become dead weight in the next two or three weeks that you won't be able to afford allowing to take up precious bench space on your squad. The hard part is, sometimes those guys are studs and you don't want to let go!
This week you are fairly safe in that Richie Weeks, Kevin Youkilis, Hanley Ramirez, Jose Reyes, and Andre Beltre should all return from the DL. Obviously, you hang on to those guys.
BUT, Nelson Cruz pulled another hamstring, and is going to be out 3 weeks. For most of my teams, that means he is scheduled to come back for the fantasy World Series. The question is, can I get into the World Series with him on the bench? Depends on your team and opponents, but you have to look at that.
Shin-Soo Choo was looking like the hitter of old lately, but he has gone down again. I drop that guy.
And a hot hitter lately, Cameron Maybin, is heading back to San Diego to get an MRI. If you have him, monitor that development, and be ready to pounce on the waiver wire if the news is bad.
And again, picking up a hot prospect like Dayan Viciedo (4-6 in his first 2 games) who is going to play should be something to consider.
OfflineJesus Montero. Finally the Yankees are going to call him up when rosters expand on Thursday. But maybe the yanks knew what they were doing, as he enjoyed his best month in the minors in the last 30 days. Going forward, he may not play much at catcher, but he is eligible. He will get at-bats against right handers, so you deep leaguers, or two catcher teams may want to take a chance.
OfflineRichie Weeks. Ouch. He was scheduled to come back tomorrow, but he can't turn left real well running the bases yet with his ankle. And if it's Nascar or running major league bases, you gotta be able to turn left. This one hurts; I need him in my most competitive league which started it's playoffs Monday!
OfflineAdrian Beltre – YES! Will be activated tomorrow!
Micheal Brantley – NO! Had the hamate bone removed from his wrist in surgery today. He is out for the season.
Brandon Guyen – Intriguing. When I was doing my research before Desmond Jennings call up, this guy stood out on the roster of the Durham Bulls. Looks like he gets called up to the bigs this week. He sported a .312 average in over 400 at-bats, with 14 HR and 61 RBI.
OfflineI'm sooooo happy Beltre is back(knock on wood). Though, my replacements have done well in his absence(Mark Reynolds for both of my public league teams as well as our league doing 3rd base duties for a traded Alex Gordon, Beltre is on both public teams as well but not on my team in our league)Beltre has been a consistent source of RBIs, runs and HRs, and I love consistency. I just hope that with The Caribbean Cruz out for 3 weeks, that doesn't affect the amount of hittable pitches he sees, like Napolli is experiencing right now.
I'm effected by the Cruz injury in our home league. As of right now I'm struggling to maintain my 4th spot to even make the playoffs(which at the beginning of the season was my objective). Now with the rest of this week and next week to scratch and claw my way to keep that spot I have to ask, What do I do? Do I risk keeping him on the bench because my starting SS Rollins(for my take on Rollins and what he means to my team I already wrote in one of the other three posts that I wrote today, you'll see it, I know sometimes my writing can turn into a juxupotic mess) already occupies the IR spot and Bones, your right, every spot is needed,? Also I can't get any info on Huston Street whom according to The Yahoo Rockies page depth chart is listed as their #1 RP, but I have yet to see him close a game since getting off the DL. Do you know what gives their? Again, any help you can offer is much appreciated, sensi.
OfflineHanley Ramirez. Is suffering from shoulder "instability" and could be shut down for the season. In fact, he most likely is done. He has to be considered the biggest disappointment in fantasy this season, and should fall in the rankings next spring.
Jair Jurrjens. This guys was lights out with a 12-3 record before the All-Star break, but the wheels have come off since. And go figure, he has a bad wheel. He'll miss his weekend start and instead go see a specialist about his knee. The goal is to get him ready for the playoffs. The REAL playoffs player…he ain't gonna help you in the fantasy rounds. Feel free to drop him.
OfflineHey Roy! The Cruz injury is devastating going into the fantasy playoffs. Not only is he out now, but when he comes back he's probably gonna be limited in his running. If SB's and triples are in your league, I think you kiss those good-bye the rest of the way.
You can always risk keeping both him and Rollins, but (as I know you do), keep a careful eye out the first 3 days of the playoffs. You may need to drop one of them for a player on the Thursday of playoff week (when less teams play). If I were you and I got in, I'd be taking a really good look at your opponent (could be me in our league!) to see if you need help in any area.
Yes, Huston Street is in wait mode. The manager said that he was going to keep Betancourt in as the closer for the time being, since he did so well in Street's absence. And he was very true to his word over the weekend. Betancourt blew a save on Saturday, but even though Street was off the DL and available on Sunday, the manager went with Betancourt again. On Sunday, he got the save. Some of the experts in the industry say it is only a matter of time however for Street to recover his role.
OfflineGrady Sizemore. Has returned from a long visit to the DL. Add at your own risk. He hasn't gotten any steals this season, so I'm not buying.
Nelson Cruz. Ugh. Will probably be another 2 weeks, although he claims he'll return early. Not so sure I'm gonna see him in my playoffs.
Richie Weeks. This one is killing me. He fielded a week ago. Took BP a week ago. Ran gingerly around the bases a week ago. And it was a week ago last that we heard anything about him. I'm in the semi's in one league, and if there is no report at the end of the week and I need stats somewhere, I may do the unthinkable.

OfflineEi-yi-yi.
Jimmy Rollins, off the DL, but will be eased back in. He doesn't sound too excited about hitting the field. With the Phillies pretty much having their playoff spot wrapped up, I don't suspect Jimmy will play much during the heart of the fantasy playoffs.
Nelson Cruz. Should be activated Tuesday, unless the farm teams advance to the playoffs. Then he'll get some at-bats down there before returning to the Rangers. Weekly leaguers beware.
Andre Either. His knee really was hurt. Who knows who's telling the truth in Dodgerland, where family dysfunction hit new levels this season. Regardless, he is done for the year.
Richie Weeks. Activated, but like Rollins will be eased in. That sure doesn't help my championship week match-up this coming week. Sigh.
Dexter Fowler would be a nice add if he is on your wire. He's gone nuts since being recalled from AAA. 10 triples!? Wow.
J. Kipnis has been activated by the Astros. He had quite the power surge before going on the DL. And Lord knows some of us need help at 2B.
D. Gordon…see player spotlight.
A. Presley has been on a little spree with the Pirates the past 2 weeks.
Nice call on Matt Wieters Bob!

OfflineSorry to anyone who is looking for new info. here. I got knee deep in my jobs and fantasy football and the playoffs in fantasy baseball, lol.
I am hurtin' for certain with some key guys, ie:
Tulo: The Rockies shortstop has a hurting hip and keeps getting pulled out of games he does try to play. He is on the shelf until he is %100.
Mike Stanton: same with Stanton. But he must be ok since he played in the 2nd game of a DH yesterday. Of course he was 0-3 with 2 K's, so I think he is still hurting.
Jose Reyes: Will play this weekend, but he has publicly said he won't be stealing bases. Thanks, but no thanks. Even saw him dropped in a league yesterday (!).
Kevin Youkilis: Has a hip or hamstring problem AND a sports hernia. He's gonna try to play through it. Good luck with that. I had one last year and I couldn't move at times. Not gonna help your fantasy stats with that.
Richie Weeks. Is playing. Somewhat. And producing nothing lately.
Jimmy Rollins. Yup, same thing. Playing, but not producing.
Nelson Cruz. Activated, but limited to pinch hitting so far. Saturday he may start though. But will he be able to run on that hammy?
Car-Go. Word is he just re-injured his wrist and will probably not play this weekend against the Giants.
And that's not even including the slew of pitchers going down like flies. You gotta check those little notes about your players EVERY day right now.
