This was meant to be on the previous post about the media purgatory, but I accidently hit the 'save post' button.  It's sunny AND cold outside today!!

So who won and lost.  A major apology to anyone who added Mike Adams with the hope of him being the Padres closer.  That strategy backfired for about 5 of my teams.  Oh, did I mention I HATE the Padres these days?

U. Jiminez is with Cleveland.  I'm guessing that the advantage of going to a better park with be negated by going to a harder league to pitch in.  As Bob said in an earlier post though, he may be hurt.  We may not see better value with him until next season.

Hunter Pence goes to a good ballpark and a MUCH better line-up.  Should see an uptick in some of his stats.

Carlos Beltran goes to an equally unfriendly ballpark, and probably a worse surrounding line-up.  His team will win more games and have a chance at the playoffs, but this probably won't translate into better stats.

Am going to be real interested to see if Eric Bedard can survive under the microscope in Boston.  He should give up more runs in that ballpark, yet he will probably record more wins with the Red Sox line-up behind him.

I'm going off memory here as my connection is weak and I can't bounce around the internet too well.  Any other thoughts from others out there?

Anything changed, or need to be added, as of August 7 (five days later)? I haven't checked the news to see how things have been going for the names above, so far… or any that were left off? All my time is over on http://www.fantasyfootballxtreme.com (go there and get ready for football, by the way!!!)…..

Thanks for asking Smitty.

Well, Jiminez got bombed in his Cleveland debut, but that was AT Texas, so he joins a lot of pitchers for that distinction.  Let's see what he does in start #2 with the Tribe.

Carlos Beltran has struggled.  Go figure with that surrounding cast.  He also just sprained his right wrist.  His manager may play him tonight, but if you have other OF options bench him.  Batters with wrist injuries who come back too soon don't do so well.

Hunter Pence is lighting it up already.  He smacked a HR IN San Francisco and will surely benefit from being in that Phillies line-up.  I traded him to another owner for Tulo last night.  That sounds like I made out like a bandit, but as Smitty always says, it's about looking forward.  Under the current circumstances, it may have been an even deal.

Bedard, like Jiminez, we will have to see what he does in start #2.  Start #1 was less than exciting as he only lasted 5 innings.

Some others I missed:

Rafeal Furcal has left the dysfunction in LA and is sitting on top of the Cardinals line-up ahead of Matt Holliday, Albert Pujols, and Lance Berkman.  He should score a ton of runs and just plain hit better with better peace of mind.  A good SS grab for those hurting there.

Micheal Bourne went to the Braves.  Another Great Escape as he leaves that AA team in Houston for a team fighting for a playoff spot.  He'll sit atop the line-up, score runs, and steal bases.

Chris Davis goes to the Orioles and is a speculative add.  He absolutely destroyed AAA hitting, but in each stint in the bigs flamed out.  This may just be a case of a guy needing a change of scenery.  He K's a lot, but has huge power potential.  And the O's have been patient with M. Reynolds, who fits the same profile.  He's gonna play, and if he gets comfy could provide some heavy lumber in September.

Doug Fister goes to Detroit.  He had only 3 wins with the Mariners.  In other words, no run support.  Now he goes to a division leader.  Predictably he won his first game there.  He will get more than 3 wins with his new team, and might be found on a number of waiver wires.

Colby Rasmus to Toronto.  Another case of a player needing a change of scenery.  Although he leaves a good line-up with the Cards, he goes to an equally good one with the Jays.  AND he is wanted there, and will play a lot.  Hitting anywhere near Juan Bautista has got to help a guy.  I've seen him on more than one waiver wire too.

Derrick Lee to the Pirates.  He was just starting to light it up after a dismal 2 month start to the season.  He goes back to the familiar surroundings of the NL Central, so he won't have to adjust to a new league.  He is the starter and will probably pound out a few more HR's before the season ends.

Jason Marquis to Arizona.  Asides from his start against Houston tomorrow night, I would avoid at all costs.  When I saw this signing as the D-backs answer to the challenging the Giants, I thought it handed SF the division, even though the G-men are without Buster Posey and Freddie Sanchez.  Marquis ought to cough up a lot of runs in the hitter-friendly confines of Arizona.

Lucas Duda is certainly a winner because of the trade of Betran.  He was handed the starting job vacated by Carlos, and to my surprise has put up some decent numbers.  Hopefully the Mets know a lot more than I do, as I panned him a month ago.  Still, there are an awful lot more OF's I want than this guy, but he could continue to surprise.  Deep leaguers can do worse.

Jose Altuve is the new 2B in Houston.  So what, right?  Well, he is hitting over .300 in his short stay so far.  The thing is, he hasn't stolen a base…yet.  He racked up quite a few steals in his minor league career.  I would think in that terrible Houston line-up that they will have to manufacture runs, so if you need steals he may be one to take a chance on.  I think the steals are coming.

Jason Bourgeois is also an Astro, which might be reason to steer clear, but he did have something like 17 steals in his first 60 AB's with them.  So the speed is there.  But the line-up is so bad they moved him to 3rd in the order.  He won't steal as much, and I doubt there is much power there either.   If they move him back to the top of the line-up, he would be a good grab, otherwise……

That's it for now.  Bob, Roy, anyone else got some ideas………???

I think you about covered it all. I hate the Padres too. The ownership and the management not the players. The players are just doing their job but for Elway and Co. to trade away Ludwick(who was a budget clean up hitter in the first place) is insane! Now who do the have? They might as well gave away Bell too because there are gonna be very few games to save with the Pads lossing all the time. Elway and Co. get the hell off my land! After the city put up most of the money for Petco Park(Yes even a percentage of my taxes paid for that park so it is figuratively part mine), we deserve an owner who will at least try to put a competitive team on the field. Good luck, Ryan Ludwick you now join an elite group of players whom have been givin away only to go on to bigger and better things(also known as The Friars Blessing).
