OfflineThanks Bob, my sediments exactly, Jason Bay hitting a buck 80, an inconsistent Santana and Jimmy Rollins don't equal the reigning AL Cy Young award winner. This particular person is in 11th place and is trying desperately to swindle anyone to improve his pitching. One guy fell for it, and this guy is trying to unloading Madison Bumgarner for Ubaldo Jimenez which according to the numbers this guy is getting ripped off. I'm thinking about objecting to the trade even though I've never done that before.
OnlineSounds like the CLASSIC CASE of offering Quantity for Quality. Worked for me the first 2 years me and my friends played fantasy. But after I ripped off a couple of guys with that tactic, it has rarely happened again (and certainly not to my benefit).
This is something I see every year in every public league I play in. The one experienced piranha trying to eat the young guppies lunch and dinner.
So am glad you held onto the King.

OnlineSilly rabbit. Of course his offer is better. It's bigger, so it's better , right?
This is just how some guys are. I have a friend who I have played with for 5 years. He will trade, and he will trade ANYBODY. But unless he is buying low and selling high, he won't deal. The first few years of the football leagues he did this all the time. Finally, guys caught up to it. Even though he would give up great players (which is what sold them), they finally realized what he got in return was why he kept winning the leagues.
Now, few deal with him. Just by coincidence, I finally won one of the leagues last year!
I imagine this fellow you are dealing with has had a lot of success with this strategy.
Another part of the strategy is to keep pounding away. Again, my friend from the example above, rarely gives up. He will send offer and after offer until someone finally gives in. I would hear THAT all the time at our meetings on Monday night. "Oh, I just finally decided to do it since you were so persistent about it" are words I would actually hear.
I found the only way to stop a guy like this is to play their game. Keep sending him counter offers that make you the buy low/sell high guy. He'll eventually stop bothering you, or better yet, start whining about how unfair your offers are. It's fun to point out the hypocrisy at that point!
So go back and ask for his best guys!
OfflineI got a new CarGo offer(the 12th offer overall for CarGo). This guys in first place and amass an all star team somehow but he's running away with the league in first place. He wants CarGo and Beltre for Zobrist, McCuthen, Chris Perez and Anibal Sanchez. I don't like it because Beltre has been like a rock for me and CarGo is coming around after a terrible start. What do you guys think? Counter offer, because he's stacked?
OnlineSure. Give him 2 Top 30 studs. Just ask for 4 of his Top 30 guys. Make him pay for what he wants. But don't take the above offer. Zobrist got half of his stats in one game if I recall. Sanchez has never had a run like the past month; it may not continue.
I am a huge CarGo fan, but I think you are right, he's coming around. And Beltre ought to hit more HR's in that hot, summer Texas air.
Unless it's like Pujols, Longoria, Heath Bell, and Kershaw or some other sort of outrageous offer that you benefit from, DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OfflineDon't do that…Zobrist inflated his stats in a doubleheader one day with like 10 or 12 RBI or something outlandish.
Anibal Sanchez is solid, but not great. I love McCutchen, and he's coming around….keep him in the deal and replace the other three players with something else…..if he'll up his offer, it's worth talking through, otherwise, forget it.
OfflineThanks for the input as usual buddies. Trade talks ended because he doesn't want to give up anyone else good. He ended up dumping Zobrist on some schmuck for Robinson Cano. I voted against it but then he added Jair Jurrjens and it went through. All 11 of these knuckle heads are trading with this guy and now he has an all-star team, kinda like the teams are in our 6 man league. I think he's already clinched 1st seed in the playoffs. I just had to p;ay him last week and he took me out 9-1. Dire situation, I wanna change his team name to Prince Albert Pooholes, haha!
OnlineSounds a lot like my friend who I described above. Let's face it, some guys just have a talent with trading. Unfortunately for you this sounds like a redraft league, so it is already too late for folks to figure it out. We did with my friend; but it has come with a cost. He is bored with our leagues. Well, all leagues but football that is.
But keep at it. If it's Yahoo, go for the 2nd seed so you get that 1st round bye. And of course, you never know what is going to happen in the playoffs. His whole team could go cold for a whole week. I know; it's happened to me, lol.
OfflineWho cares about first seed? Just make the playoffs man…anything can happen!! Had a dynasty team last year that was off the rails…just not getting it done for whatever reason and I made a couple of trades, got hot, went from not being in the playoffs up to the 5 or 6 seed and then steamrolled everyone in postseason……just keep an eye on your team and make sure you have the best team you can possibly have.
OfflineI hear both of you loud and clear.
An hour after I posted he came at me with the most riDICKulous offer yet, his Anibal Sanchez, Chris Perez and Matt Garza for my Roy Halladay! So, I took your advice and counter offered him. My Hallladay, CarGo, Jed Lowrie and Adrian Beltre for his Cano, Prado, McCutchen and Kimbrel. To me that's a well balanced trade with CarGo getting demoted to leadoff plus Halliday hasn't quite been the pitching savior I thought he'd be. What do you guys think?
P.S. My nickname for this guy is now Prince Albert Pooholes
