OfflineOne of the last times we spoke I'd completed my two drafts and was going to send you my rosters so you can give me some much needed expert advice. I apologize in advance for my lack of diction and spelling. O.K. I have two teams The San Diego Madres and The San Diego 13. Both teams have Cargo(which I receive the lamest trade offers for), Adrian Beltre, Torii Hunter,Raul Ibanez, Ty Wiggington and pitcher Hong-Chih Kuo. The following is where the teams differ.
San Diego 13: Russell Martin C, Aubrey Huff 1st base, Dan Uggla 2nd base, Beltre 3rd base, Starlin Castro SS, Cargo OF, Alex Rios OF, Hunter 3rd base, Lance Berkman Uti, Ibanez Uti and my bench consist of Luke Scott, Wiggington, Matt Wieters, Ryan Theiart and Andres Torrez. Pitchers: Matt Cain, Derek Lowe, Brian Wilson, Carlos Marmol, Felix Hernandez, Javier Vasquez, Hong, Matt Lindstrom and Jon Garland
San Diego Madres: Wieters C, Paul Konerko 1st, Chone Figgins 2nd, Omar Infante SS, Beltre 3rd, Ichiro OF, Cargo OF, Hunter OF, Bobby Abreu Uti, Denard Span Uti, bench(in no paticular order) Miguel Montero C, Addam Jones OF and Ty Wiggington(for his versatility 1st 2nd and 3rd) Pitchers: ROY Halliday, Ervin Santana, Heath Bell, Joakim Soria, Gavin Floyd, Hong, Derek Holland, Johan Santana and Zack Greinke.
SSSHHHHUUU, that seemed like a lot of names. All in all, I think I did allright. But ANY help I can get on how to trim the fat, get some good pickup suggestions and improve on my weeknesses would be more than welcome! I'm in two highly competitive Yahoo! Head to Head leauges, even though I signed up for casual because this is just my second go at this(Baseball) since my epic pre windows 1993 Leauge where we had to call in our lineups everyday. that's why I have a low tollerance for deadbeat managers cuz it's so eazy to set up your lineup everyday.
OfflineNo problem mang. Whenever you or anyone else feels up to it. I'm open to any suggestion especially with my pitching, I seem to know less about pitchers then batters. P.S. Did you receive an e-mail from Andrew (wEE) concerning us getting together and doing playoff basketball? I know your plate is currently full but I'm considering getting in on this. Talk to ya later.
OnlineWow, how time flies. It's been a month since I was too tired to answer this request. Sorry Roy. It's been a busy and sometimes hard month. Busy with Easter, Mom's Day, and the 100th anniversary for the church I work for. Hard because we had someone leave after 13 years, and he left in a huff. And worse of all, the 3 year old brother of one of our kindergarten students in the school passed away.
But the anniversary weekend ends tomorrow, and I see light at the end of this tunnel. For a few weeks, until all the big summer activities start, lol.
ANYWAYS, looking at your roster for San Diego 13, I see why in many of your posts you are sooooooooo frustrated! You named this team well, as it looks like almost every one of your players has had bad luck this year and are slumping.
I can say you have 2 good relief pitchers. But saves alone don't get you many victories do they?
Let me guess. J. Vasquez, H. Kuo, M. Lindstrom, and Jon Garland are all long gone in place of hitters who are hot or other pitching help?
I'm guessing hitting wise you replaced A. Huff with one of the up and coming first basemen like Gaby Sanchez or Mark Trumbo?
I'm also guessing you jettisoned Raul Ibanez and even Torri Hunter after their putrid starts? And maybe even Wigginton and Torres after they went on the DL?
Hmmmmmmmm, I imagine that you have quite a different look about your team. Give us an update if you want, and let us know if you even want to cover the Madres too.
OfflineMy condolences for your loss.
I completely understand about time constraints as I have them myself, My respiratory infection turned into pneumonia and I spent a few days in the hospital,so the last two weeks I've been preety much bedriden. I'm starting to feel much beter now as I'm on the strongest antibiotic they have for pneumonia. If it weren't for my trusty iPod touch, which is like a small iPad, I wouldn't have been able to keep up with roster changes and free agents. Both of my other fantasy baseball teams rosters have changed a bit since I first wrote you. When I get a chance I'll send them over to ya.
PS I have a terrible app for my ipod touch. Why don't you guys at Fantasy Baseball Xtreme make an app!? Thanks and Cheers!
Also, Yeah I do know Ted Johnson, he still lives here in town. I don't have his phone number but I've run into him a few times since JR High and High School and we talked.
OnlineGeezzzzz Roy, that sounds like a close call. Glad you are getting better. We can't lose you man; you're one of what, 4 guys who consistently write, lol?
Your description of being bedridden makes me think of my future. I can see myself in bed at 82, drooling onto my pillow, trying to focus my eyes on my 2041 fantasy line-ups. "Nurse, Nurse, for God's sake get in here and help me with the waiver wire!!!"
That high tech stuff is something Smitty would have to look into. I'll try to mention it next time I send him an e-mail.
OfflineYeah, unfortunatly with my heart problems I retain water at times. One of the places is in my lungs. I take Lasix for it but that combined with the infection I was already battling, it hit hard. By now theyre used to me at the hospital so they take good care of me. Plus there were some cute nurses! One of four, hahaha! By the way how old are you?
OnlineHaha, cute nurses. Gotta tell ya this story.
So I'm playing semi-fast softball back in the late 80's, and my manager puts me in at first base. A guy bunts, the pitcher fields and throws to me at first. I have my eye on the ball and not the runner. Next thing I know I'm on the ground screaming with a dislocated elbow. And the one thing I remember the most is my manager standing over me and saying, "Wow, I've heard of this before, but never seen one." Thanks for the bedside manners, Skip.
After the ambulance ride and x-rays, 3 doctors come in to put my arm back in place. It's kind of a delicate thing, what with tendons and ligaments wrapped all over the place. So to distract me, they put what had to be the prettiest nurse in the whole hospital on my other arm. As the pain killers set in, I probably embarrassed myself to no end talking to her. It worked though; they got the dumb arm back in place without me even looking at it.
My softball career ended 3 or 4 years later when I got married.
Anyways, I'm 52. But it's a young 52. I've worked with kids for 30 years, so that has kept me spry.
OfflineAhhh! Opioids and hot nurses! Now that could start a post that would get me kicked off this web sight, haha. Seriously, glad you got through that with minimal discomfort.
52. I'm 37. I'm closing in on middle age and your already there, haha. I thought you were in you late 20s. I got you and Bob backwards, I thought he was in his 50s and it turns out he's a few years younger than me. I hope we can all meet each other one day in the future.
OnlineNow THAT's a cool idea.
We could meet at the beginning of spring training next year in Arizona and plot how to improve the site. Smitty lives in Arizona. Maybe he'd come train us. On the other hand, maybe he'd come to give me my walking papers, yikes!
Seriously, plant that idea in the back of your minds….spring training….Arizona….help the site….etc. etc.
OnlineLate 20's!? Now if you knew me in person that would be a compliment. But based on my writings………are you saying I'm immature? And here I thought I was a decent writer…..
One thing I like to do working with kids. They always ask how old I am. So I have them guess (and they always guess younger mind you!). Eventually they get to 52. Then I ask, "How long do you think I've been a SF Giants baseball fan?" After they guess, I tell them 53 years, because "Mom raised me listening to Russ Hodges and Lon Simmons call Giants games on the radio while I was in the womb."
OfflineCool idea! Arizona spring training. That sounds cool. I'll have to see how my finances are, It's a good thing there is time to save money.
No. Not immature. I like your writing because of your sports knowledge and point of view. I just imagined since you knew just about everything in hoops that you might be younger. Also you knew about players coming out of college, so I thought you might just have attended college in the last 5 years. But, no your writing doesn't sound immature. Well regardless of your age, your a cool guy mang. 52 is not old anyway.
I get confused for being in my 20s because I still dress like a 20 year old and I have a lot of tattoos(which are all old, ironically). I know it's cliche but I think age is still a state of mind. One of my closest friends is in his 60s(Greg Douglass, my former guitar teacher, current music mentor, co songwriter and he was in the Steve Miller Band, lead guitar and songwriter 1976-1982). Greg's from the Bay Area too.
Cool, haha. All i know about that era of Giants is Mays. My days were Matt Williams and Will Clark.
OnlineThanks Roy, I was just teasing of course. Yes, age is a state of mind. That's why I'm still young at 52.
I basically know a lot about sports because it is practically my one and only hobby. Music would be #2, but no where near where you are involved in it. I just collect it, listen to it, and once in a blue moon go to a concert.
Yes, Arizona and spring training would be cool. I've always wanted to do that. And I had one chance in the 80's when I worked for the Boys and Girls Clubs. Went to a regional conference in Phoenix smack dab in the middle of March. Of course, that was the year baseball was on strike! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
