It's May 24, the Giants have a 3 game lead in the NL West, and this years version of Buster Posey hasn't even arrived yet.

The Rockies are plummeting, and just lost one of their main pitchers, De La Rosa, for the rest of the year.

Could the Giants actually repeat?

I would not have thought so at the beginning of the year…it is so difficult to do….and they had a lot of things go right last year…but still…..

OK, so I guess I get to answer my own question.

Although it is a team sport, the loss of Buster Posey will do the Giants in.

You have to have a lot go RIGHT to win, much less repeat.

Losing your best bat, leader of the pitching staff, great clubhouse presence, etc. etc. does not qualify as going right.

Look for the Rockies or even Arizona to win the west now.

Gosh, I sure hope I'm wrong…………..

We are 3 games away from the All-Star break.  The Giants have lost last season's Rookie of the Year in catcher Buster Posey for the season; Tim Lincecum is NOT pitching like a Cy Young winner and is missing the all-star game this year with a 6-7 record; J. Sanchez has given up enough walks that he probably has lost his starting job to Barry Zito (Barry Zito!); Freddie Sanchez is out for months leaving a gapping hole at 2B; there is a Black Hole at Shortstop; Aubrey Huff signed that big off-season contract and sure enough has gone in the tank;  Who plays left field; Brian Wilson is blowing more games than normal, and……….

The Giants are 10 games over .500 with a 2 game lead in the NL West.

Some teams are snake-bit, but the Giants seem to be living a charmed existence!

You aren't going to find much fantasy gold on this team, but it is real fascinating in real life that they keep plugging along in first place.

To be continued…………
